As part of the International Day of the Seafarer celebrations, a ceremonial reception dedicated to Georgian seafarers and their families was held in Batumi on June 24 with the support of Ambassadori Island Batumi. The event aimed to recognize the professional achievements of seafarers, acknowledge their hard work, and highlight the significant contribution they make to the development of Georgia’s maritime sector and the country’s representation within the international shipping industry.

The reception provided guests with an opportunity to exchange experiences in an informal setting, strengthen professional connections, and celebrate their professional holiday together.

During the event, attendees were addressed by Gocha Kamkia, CEO of Ambassadori Island Batumi, who spoke about the importance of the seafaring profession and emphasized the vital role that the sea and the maritime industry play in the development of both Batumi and Georgia.

“Ambassadori Island is pleased to support this event, as we are developing the largest project in the Black Sea, which includes the creation of two peninsulas and an island. The development will feature the region’s first international-standard yacht club. We fully understand the challenges and unique demands of the seafaring profession, and for that reason we wanted to be among the supporters of this important occasion,” said Gocha Kamkia.

As one of the largest development projects on the Black Sea coast, Ambassadori Island Batumi will continue to support initiatives that promote maritime culture, strengthen the professional maritime community, and contribute to the development of Batumi as a modern maritime hub.

The International Day of the Seafarer was established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2011 and is observed annually on June 25. The day is dedicated to recognizing the invaluable contribution of seafarers worldwide, whose work is essential to the uninterrupted functioning of international shipping and global trade. In Georgia, the occasion has been celebrated on a significant scale for many years.
